Britain’s green and pleasant land has never been under greater threat from development. The battle lines are already being drawn around Heathrow's fifth runway, and other major new projects.

At least three million new homes are planned, some on flood plains despite the risks. Along with these houses, there are plans for new roads, hospitals, schools, rail depots and other infrastructure to support them. New sources of energy are needed to - like windfarms. But there’s already fierce opposition to each of these plans. Following disputes around the nation, PLANNING WARS raises the question, how can our planning system cope?
